We're beginning this course and I can tell it's going to be a good one: it's going to touch on all the little things that I want to get deep into. Coming fresh into the world of business, I really want to immerse myself in everything I can and soak it all up.

The biggest thing I want to get out of this course is a firm and thorough understanding of the marketing world and theory of how it all works. I don't picture myself as some sort of marketing genius, but I want to take this knowledge that I learn through the course and transform it in a way that's mine and will set me apart when I'm searching for a career in the marketing industry. I feel that the consistency of the work in this course and the in-depth discussion we do as a class will really help me on this path.

In any schooling there's always the same things you need to do in order to succeed: show up, complete your work, and ask questions. I'm never going to leave myself in a position of uncertainty, my teacher is there for a reason and I am going to take full advantage of that until she's screening my calls and hiding from me in the hallways. The more questions I ask, the closer I will get to my goal. I never leave an assignment undone, the only thing I am doing by not doing an assignment is inhibiting my ability to learn and to grow in this program. It's a detriment to my education to not meet the requirements of the course and even my own expectations and goals coming into this program. Just like a job, class requires attendance and it needs to be consistent. Can you just not show up to work for a week and everything will be fine and dandy? No, I don't think so. You'd be fired after day two! In order to do well, you need to be in a space of consistency and routine, having the information burned into your brain.

The most important thing that I have learned thus far in the course is how deep down the rabbit hole the world of marketing goes when it's trying to push a new product. Not only do you look at average age, gender, ethnicity, you're also looking at family values, social groups, group psychology, etc., it touches on the science of people and I find that so interesting and something I could see myself getting very involved in. It helped me to understand that taking some psychology electives may not be a bad idea after all. I feel it would definitely help the process of future marketing endeavours.
